Ages 11+

During this stage in school, students begin an in-depth learning exploration through courses taught by a team of teachers, each specialized in one or more subjects.

From Grade 6 to Grade 9, LFIM provides a challenging curriculum established by the French Ministry of Education. Added to English, LFIM offers two other languages, German and Spanish.

Our expert teachers collaborate across classrooms and subjects to coordinate their lessons in creative ways.

At the end of Grade 9, students take the DNB examination (Diplôme National du Brevet) to assess their knowledge gained at the end of Lower Secondary.

The DNB examination comprises three parts:

1. Continuous assessments through the year (400 credits).
2. Three written tests:
   • French reading comprehension – grammar – vocabulary – dictation – essay (100 credits)
   • History-Geography-Civic and Moral instruction (50 credits)
   • Maths (100 credits)
   • Science (50 credits)
3. An oral presentation of a subject studied throughout the year with the help of two teachers. The students choose their subject they would like to take forward, from a choice of topics proposed by the teachers (100 credits)

Students are challenged to demonstrate knowledge and encouraged to explore new ideas, solve problems, and analyze information. Time management skills and self-sufficient study habits are instilled throughout these grades to prepare students for greater autonomy and more challenging courses in high school.
